White 793
The White 793 was an ugly looking non working machine but with minimal effort she came back to life and is beautiful.
Good looking, easy to use, has lots of stitches, and a 1.3 amp motor too. The bobbin winder has the unique feature of disengaging a clutch when rotated up to contact the fly wheel... really the best solution compared to loosening the big hand nut on most other machines.

I just became the proud owner of a White 782 which is cosmetically identical, but lacks the decorative stitches. It looks as though your machine has a replacement bobbin winder tire, which mine desperately needs. May I ask where you found the replacement tire? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a cool machine. Any fully stocked sewing center will have them, they may be bundled with a motor belt too. There aren't many different sizes, so good luck.
DeleteHi, I have this exact machine, but not the manual. Do you understand the "a" and "b" settings, especially for the bobbin? Also, do you know what the correct bobbin is, and where to order it?

Hey DL, A & B on the bobbin ring relate to a special basting setting, not sure that you need it but definitely don't leave it on the B position.
DeleteThe A & B on the settings are for the two back & forth stitches. Set the vert selector to A or B and the dial to match. The secret is to hold the reverse button down and the dial should go into A or B.
The bobbins could be either thin or thick; both will fit. What I have found is that some of the thick bobbins can hang up and not allow the bobbin case to lock down. If you find the bobbin case keeps falling out or you can't get it to lock this is what is happening.
I have a 793 also! Really a joy of a machine. The approxiamte manual can be downloaded for free from www.singerco.com this is the official singer website. At the top of the page is "customer support" hover over that and then choose "instruction manuals"; on the new page that comes up, type in w794, or w970, or w804. I downloaded the 970 and 804 due to the quality of the scans. Thanks for letting us have a look at your gorgeous machine.

If you have a Joann's or sewing / vacuum repair near by get a round one and you will be up and running, then search around for the exact V belt when you have time. Best to have a spare.

ReplyDeleteYes, I could use some help in putting back the tension assembly after I decided to clean the discs. I have the White 793 . I had pieces in order, but they came off so fast that I somehow didn’t get back in the right order.
