I think I have had all of the 1950' series Necchi's at this point?
Miranda
Nora
Lydia
Nova
SuperNova
Logica 592 80s
This one cam out of a cabinet and needed both the full "all metal bits off" cleaning as well as new wiring from plug to pedal. Fortunately I had this handy BU wiring diagram to work to.
Super saturated in 63 year old oil/grime it was a tough nut to crack.
Nice to have the original motor with the date and the hefty 1.1amp stamped on it.
Unfortunately this green paint job did not survive nearly as well as my grey Nora
She was frozen to the point of about a half turn only but the most fun is getting them unstuck. I made a custom crank handle out of a spare lock knob so that I can have better leverage while doing the loosening / break-in phase
No case on this one but it came with this unusual accessories box
The "Press Here" box
Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift.
ReplyDeleteSewing Machines
Hi. I have this same machine in a beautiful cabinet. It has that little black box, an accessories box (both full) including all the stuff to do embroidery and the like. I can barely sew and can't decide if I should keep or sell this. I can't find anywhere to help me price it. Ideas?
ReplyDeleteThere is no better beginners machine, later when you want bells and whistle's you can get something based on solid experience
DeleteHi - where did you get the nice wwod box?
ReplyDeleteThere is a guy out there who makes presentation level frames for machines; but they are pricey.
DeleteI make them simple, see my post "DIY Vintage Sewing Machine Base"

ReplyDeleteI just had a Necchi BU sewing machine given to me. The lady told me it worked fine the last time she used it. My problem is it is not working. When I plug it in the light works but cannot sew with it. Is there something I'm missing? It has the knee control.
ReplyDeleteAnybody have a wiring diagram for this beginner. The motor wires are partially gone and need replacement. Can't find a manual with this information. Suggestiobs?
ReplyDeleteLove your site! the wiring diagram was most helpful. My big problem now is finding the correct belt! The ones claimed to fit do not and I have had to move the motor back (now its on one screw) to get any tension. Please, can you help with who might be able to help?
ReplyDeleteI just purchased and successfully restored a BU Mira. It has all of the accessories and is really in mint condition. However the needle displacement lever is snapped off. This makes use the wonder wheel impossible. Does anyone know where I might locate this part C 26165? Any leads would be most appreciated.
ReplyDeleteHello, I got my lovely old supermatic Elna, 1950’s out, like the green one you show on your site, when suddenly the presser foot lever went limp. It won’t lift up now. I can see something is not attached inside but have no idea how to fix it. Any hints? Have quite a few old machines and makes. I love the green ones especially. Just added to my collection with a very early Husqvarna klass 14, which is very similar to the Elna grasshopper, which I also have. Thanks in advance.

ReplyDeleteI still use my mother's Necchi BU Mira, as well as an all-metal Kenmore 158.179281. The Kenmore can tap dance, but the Necchi makes the most beautiful straight stitch ever.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any pictures of the pin in the needle mechanism. My mother has this same machine that was her mothers. Their is a small 1inch pin that's wide at the top and skinny at the bottom, it broke a while back and we are trying to find a picture of it in one piece so we can have it made by a machine shop
ReplyDeleteHi - does anyone know the differences between the BU Nova and BU Mira? Thank you.

ReplyDeleteTh is one of the most annoying things about the Necchi brand; maybe an (Italian thing)they named and modified and changed things with no sence of direction or record keeping.
DeleteI have to constantly look up what is what and am not sure how to verify what came 1st.
Anyhow they are great machines regardless of the lack of documentation
I am looking for a machine that would sew leather and heavy upholstery fabric. Any recommendations!

ReplyDeleteI have inherited my Mothers Necci Model BU Mira in a beautiful cabnet in excellent condition. It gave her many years of excellent service but unfortunately the belt has just worn through and needs replacing. I live in South Africa. Do you know of anywhere that I can purchase one or order one on line or perhaps another make that is compatible. If I look at your pictures its like I am looking at my green machine. I look forward to hearing from you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wealth of information! I just bought a bu mira. Unfortunately, the on off/ hi low housing is badly broken. I woukd live to find a new housing or a complete assembly. Any ideas on what stone to turn over?
